Little by little, both International Federations and sports organizations are beginning to regulate the presence of transsexual athletes in different women’s competitions.
The latest to do so is the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association), which has decided that only cisgender players – assigned female at birth – or those who have transitioned to female before going through male puberty can compete in golf tournaments. the LPGA or in the eight USGA championships for women.
The LPGA thus joins the regulations that have been adopted by the majority of International Federations, such as FINA or UCI, although studies on the subject are still continuing to establish new criteria if necessary.
The American organization assures that this regulation, which will come into force in 2025, arises after more than a year of studies that involved medicine, science, sports physiology and gender policy laws. This legislation would rule out the eligibility of, for example, Hailey Davidson, who missed qualifying for the US Women’s Open this year by one stroke and missed the cut at the LPGA qualifying school.
“I can’t say I didn’t see this coming,” Davidson wrote on social media. “I have been banned from participating in Epson and the LPGA. All the silence and people who want to stay ‘neutral’, thank you for absolutely nothing. “This happened because of all his silence.”
The LPGA expert task force reported that the effects of male puberty allowed for competitive advantages in golf compared to players who had not gone through puberty.
