Tottenham hands Liverpool its second defeat of the season

Liverpool, who had not lost in 24 games, succumbed in their second game of the season when they fell to Tottenham in London (1-0) in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The other semi-final was played yesterday in the first leg. with an Arsenal-Newscastle (0-2).

Tottenham took the victory in a very dull match that was marked by Rodrigo Bentancur’s spectacular injury in the first quarter of an hour of the match.

The clash had few notable chances and ended with a saving goal from Bergvall in the 86th minute after a good counterattack by the Spurs, who thus have hopes of being in the very final at Wembley if they finish off that result at Anfield. The Londoners were mired in a crisis with three defeats and a draw in the last four games.

Liverpool came out with some substitutes and left the starters Alexander-Arnold, Luis Díaz and Konaté on the bench (they came out in the second half), plus some others like Robertson. Salah did play, but he couldn’t do much for the Reds, who must now save the final at Anfield.
