Tiger Woods once again sows doubts: he announces that he will not play ‘his’ tournament

Tiger Woods has announced that he will not be able to play the Hero World Challenge, the annual postseason tournament that he organizes in Albany (Bahamas) and which this year takes place from December 5 to 8. Of course, Tigre has not revealed the exact reason why he will not participate, although it is worth remembering that last September he underwent a “micro decompression operation of the lumbar spine due to pinching of a nerve in the lower part of the the back.”

However, in his message on the ‘X’ social network, the Californian golfer explained that he will attend as host: “I am disappointed not to be able to compete in the Hero World Challenge this year, but I am always looking forward to hosting the tournament. and spend the week with Hero Moto Corporation.” Woods also announced that there will be waivers for Justin Thomas, Jason Day and Nick Dunlap.

Since Tiger suffered a serious traffic accident in February 2021 in which he almost lost his right leg, he has not competed regularly. At first he indicated that he would try to play once a month, but that was a pipe dream. The winner of 15 majors had to focus on the majors and last season he was also able to compete in the Hero World Challenge and the Genesis Invitational, tournaments in which he is an involved party; not even The Players has returned to its very limited schedule. His last victory dates back to 2019, at the ZOZO Championship, shortly after his incredible triumph at the Masters that same year. To this day he remains tied in the PGA Tour record at 82 victories with Sam Snead.

Since that accident he has only been in 11 tournaments and this year, of five participations, he only made the cut in the Masters (60th place). Of course, there is a Christmas event that Tiger attends annually to play with his son Charlie and at the moment he has not said that he is going to give it up. This is the PNC Championship (December 21-22), for which he will probably use a golf cart to move around the course, as he has done on other occasions. In any case, the situation of the iconic golfer, who will turn 49 in January, remains a mystery as he has not yet recovered physically.
