The return of golf to the Olympic Games in 2016 was a great success and that impulse moved to the 2024 games in Paris. However, there were many voices that requested a different format from the traditional Stroke Play competition. This novelty will come, but not in male or female events, but in the new mixed team competition.

The International Golf Federation announced how the mixed golf competition of the Los Angeles Olympic Games will be developed in 2028. The event will be played by a player and a player already classified for the individual Olympic competition, and a two -day format that will include a round of 18 holes (alternate blows) and a 18 -hole fourage round (better ball). The event will be played between the individual and female individual competition in the Riviera Country Club and each nation will only be allowed a team. Golf is one of the six sports that will add a mixed competition in 2028.

“The golf had an incredible success in Paris 2024, already measure that we continue to take advantage of the impulse of Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, we are excited to give even more visibility to our sport with this new format,” said Antony Scanlon, executive director of IGF, who added: “The golfers showed great enthusiasm for playing with their compatriots, and we are looking forward to seeing them compete together in Los Angeles.”
