The English federation (FA) is investigating referee David Coote for allegedly giving a player a yellow card so that a friend could benefit financially through betting.
According to the newspaper ‘The Sun’, in 2019, Coote cautioned Leeds United player Ezgjan Alioski and then sent a message to a friend: “I hope you put him in like we talked about.”
David Coote was filmed snorting white powder and had a ‘drug party’ during a match
This new investigation comes after Coote is in the eye of the storm for insulting coach Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool and for allegedly using cocaine during the Euro Cup.
The referee, who had been in England’s elite for more than five years, is suspended by the FA and UEFA and has not refereed for several weeks.
A spokesperson for the Premier League referee association told Sky Sports that these facts need to be clarified because they are very serious accusations.
“We have a zero tolerance policy for any breach of our code of integrity and conduct, which is signed by all referees annually. The PGMOL (professional referee body) is committed to taking appropriate action if any breach of this code is proven. “.
An FA spokesperson said the allegations “are very serious” and they are urgently investigating them.
