The ‘Red Bull Empire’ staggers: Leipzig and Salzburg, in their deepest crisis

The Red Bull model suffers its first fissure. The two pillars of their football project, RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig, face their worst season since the consolidation of the project and could be out of the Champions League and the Europa League for the next course for the first time since the energy drink manufacturer took control.

The Leipzig by Marco Rose, who had become the main property team, is living a season for the forgetfulness that threatens the German stay on the bench. The ‘Red Bulls’ were used from the Champions League to the first change, with only three points in the Liguilla phase. In Bundesliga they are in free fall: they have only won two of their last ten games and are already sixth.

Lothar Matthäus, historic German player and now a commentator on Sky, pointed a few days ago to the executive director of Red Bull, Oliver Mintzlaff, for bad planning, qualifying the club as “a pile of debris that has reached a place where those responsible never wanted to see it”.

End of cycle? The disruption that could cause

The Saxony set has based its signing policy in recent years on the collection of young players who arrive from minor leagues. Many times using the Salzburg springboard, and then sell them and take them out economic revenue. Players like Xavi Simons, Loïs Opennda, Castello Lukeba or his top scorer, Benjamin Sesko, could leave the entity this summer.

The intention of the club has always been to try to dose sales in each window so as not to destabilize the project, but the bad results of this course and the lack of success of sports management in recent markets, can be a change of course in Leipzig.

Things are even more dramatic for the ‘older brother’. The Salzburgos are rooms in the Austrian Bundesliga, their worst classification in twenty years for which you have to go back to before, even that Red Bull acquired the club. In addition, they are eliminated from the local Cup and were antepenultants in the Champions League with seven losses in eight games.

Jürgen Klopp, the new architect of the factory

The legendary former coach of Liverpool or Borussia Dortmund assumed the position of Global Football Director on January 1, 2025 with the intention to redirect the project and promote coordination between the different clubs of the multiprophity group, among which are also the Bragantine and the New York Red Bulls.

The weakening of the sports structure in recent times has weakened Rose’s team in recent times. This transit of other Red Bull to Leipzig equipment is less and less frequent, so one of the Klopp objectives is to develop the intensity and high pressure style that characterizes the group to facilitate coordination between all its sets.

Two giants without roots, the rejection of the rest of the clubs

Both teams have suffered the protests of rival hobbies since their consolidation in the elite, especially in the case of Leipzig, since in Germany rule 50+1 prevails, whereby most of the club’s actions always have to be in the hands of the partners.

The rest of the competition teams accuse Saxony of cheating to skip the norm, integrating different people related to Red Bull as the only members with the right to vote, causing that in practice the club be controlled by the factory.
