South Korean Byeong-Hun An wins the Genesis Championship

The South Korean Byeong-Hun An was declared the final winner of the Genesis Championship, a tournament belonging to the DP World Tour that was held at the Jack Nicklaus club in Incheon, in his native country, after winning the tiebreaker over his compatriot Tom Kim.

Both came to the decisive day sharing first place and kept this face to face until the end, signing a final day with 67 hits, five under par for the field, the champion thanks to seven ‘birdies’ and two ‘bogeys’ and Kim making six birdies and one bogey.

This allowed them to overcome the pressure of the Portuguese Ricardo Gouveia, who copied the South Koreans’ route and finished the four routes with a total of -16, one stroke behind them; the Frenchman Antoine Rozner (-15) and the Italian Guido Migliozzi (-14), the best on Sunday with 65 hits.

In the final luck it was decided at the first opportunity, since Kim could only make a ‘bogey’ after playing a bad hole and An thus had two putts, taking advantage of the initial one, to achieve the second title of his career on the circuit after the 2015 BMW PGA Championship.

“The only thing I tried to do was show great golf in front of the local fans. It’s an incredible feeling. It was a great tournament for me, I really enjoyed it. There was a lot of support for me and Tom and I feel like we had a great battle today , I was a little lucky and I was the winner. It’s a sweet ending to this year, it’s been a great year,” An said.

Regarding the Spanish participation, Iván Cantero was the best, equaling in sixth place thanks to his -12 with the Italian Francesco Laporta and the South African Casey Jarvis. Alejandro del Rey finished with -10, Manuel Elvira with -7 and Alfredo García-Heredia with +2.
