The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) organized a nationwide protest, including a torch rally, in response to the Kathmandu District Court’s decision to grant a five-day remand for Vice-chair Rabindra Mishra, lawmaker Dhawal Shumsher Rana, and others.
The protest was a response to the arrest of the individuals on Friday, which was preceded by a violent protest in Tinkune that resulted in the deaths of two people. The authorities claimed that those arrested were involved in the unrest and would be prosecuted accordingly.
The arrested individuals, including Mishra, Rana, and others, were presented in court in detainee uniforms. The protest also resulted in the arrest of another alleged religious leader, Pushkar Khatiwada, who was accused of inciting violence against the police.
In the meantime, Durga Prasai, the leader of the RTF, had initially returned home after fleeing Thapathali, but later went into hiding. The protest was attended by a large number of people, including RPP supporters, who carried torches, chanted slogans, and waved party flags, demanding the release of the arrested individuals.
The RPP had issued a 24-hour ultimatum on Saturday, demanding the release of the arrested individuals, but the court had extended their detention to proceed with charges under crimes against the state.
