Everything that could have gone badly went wrong on the classification day of the 6 hours of Monza. Despite having two Spaniards at the top of the general classification … both will come out in recent positions tomorrow.
One because of the bop (the corvette of Dani Juncadella was out of the fight at all times) and another for its own errors: the Ferrari #50 by Miguel Molina. The 499p of the champions of Le Mans and leaders of the championship (fuoco in classfication tasks) had a calamitous session, with its two quick -return attempts canceled for violating the track limits. Result: 18th will be left … and last tomorrow.
Miguel Molina’s Ferrari 50 will have to overcome tomorrow from the end of the grill.
A very bad position, since Icola is not exactly the most conducive circuit to recover rapid positions … and because leaving behind is a real danger in the first meters, as already checked in the last season in the return of the WEC to Enzo and Dino Ferrari. Be that as it may … the crew of #50 has no choice but to assume it, to go with the situation and fight for the comeback.
It was undoubtedly a very painful stupid because the Ferrari was, with enough difference, the faster car. And that was clear in the Hyperpole, where the two Italian cars took the front row (with pole for the #51 official of Giovinazzi, Lost Guidi and Draw) with almost a second advantage over the third, the veloz BMW.
Pole de Rossi and Juncadella, far behind in LMGT3
The Tifossi lived a momentazo with the LMGT3 category, in which Valentino Rossi himself starred in a sensational pole position. The nine -time MotoGP world champion, as a silver pilot, was in charge of piloting the BMW #46 in the Hyperpole … and there imposed his law imposing himself to the competitive Lexus of Pechito López, Schmidt and Umbrarescu.
Dani Juncadella (Corvette) and his companions Ben Keating (the bronze pilot in charge of disputing the classification) and Jonny Edgar had no option to shine and will leave tomorrow 16th on the grill between the LMGT3. The 30 extra kilos imposed by the Bop after their victory in Qatar prevented them from overcoming the first screen that selects the 10 cars fighting for pole.
That first cut was passed by the second Corvette (that of Van Rompuy-Andrade-Eastwood although yes, for the hair), although in the Hyperpole it was not much further further because it ended tenth and last of the final batch.
The 6 hours of Icola will be played tomorrow Sunday from 1:00 p.m. and can be followed live on television through Eurosport.
