Scottie Scheffler, world number 1, will be out for three to four weeks after undergoing surgery to repair the injury suffered in his right hand on Christmas Day. A domestic accident, when she was preparing dinner, caused a puncture wound from broken glass.
“There were small pieces of glass left in his palm that required surgery. He has been told he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry (January 2-5). His next tournament scheduled is The American Express” (January 16-19), according to Blake Smith, his representative, in a statement.
In 2024 Scheffler won nine titles, including seven on the PGA Tour. He donned the green jacket at the Augusta Masters for the second time, was Olympic champion at the Paris Games and finished with a victory in the Tour Championship to win his first FedExCup.
Scheffler is the first player since Tiger Woods to win the PGA TOUR Player of the Year award in three consecutive years. He has been ranked number 1 in the world for every week of 2024.
