Real Madrid is still obsessed with the ‘Arnold or nothing’ for January, but it is encountering an obstacle that, unless things change a lot, seems insurmountable: Liverpool’s ‘no’ to parting with the English full-back.
From the city of the Beatles, we receive certainties that, for the moment, the club refuses to negotiate with Madrid: “We don’t want to sell our player now,” whisper the English managers to those who want to listen to them.
But what is the Anfield club’s reasoning? From their point of view, the 20-25 million (maximum) that Real Madrid can offer them in this market are not worth hindering the club’s true objective: achieving the Premier League and Champions League this season. And for that they consider the presence of TAA in the squad to be essential. Nothing would be more important than this double achievement, not even that money from Madrid for a club that is by no means in the red thanks to its ownership, the North American group Fenway Sport Group.
Another battle will come this summer, a battle that, from England, they do not consider lost either. The player joins training this Thursday and in the coming weeks there will also be efforts by the British club to try to convince Arnold to extend the current contract that ends in June.
That offer, which will arrive soon, will not be exorbitant either. Liverpool’s wage policy is not to go crazy with its players. The one who earns the most is Mo Salah, with about 21.6 million euros per year, while Arnold does not exceed 11 per year. The ‘Pool’ will offer TAA something more, but without becoming ‘crazy’. And there, obviously, will come the offer from Real Madrid, which… will it be irresistible for June?
