Uli Hoeness, the former historic player and president of Bayern Munich, assessed in an internal meeting of the Bavarian club last week that the time of Thomas Tuchel, announced this Wednesday as the new English coach, at the head of the six-time European champion “was a catastrophe”.
As revealed by the German sports magazine ‘Sport Bild’, in a secret summit at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Hoeness spoke, among others, with around 120 club employees to evaluate the current and recent situation and Bayern’s method of attacking against the German coach.
It was attended by President Herbert Hainer, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, Executive Vice President Michael Diederich and Uli Hoeness himself, honorary president of the entity.
In his speech, the former leader praised the current coach, the Belgian Vincent Kompany, with whom he stated that he was “very enthusiastic.”
It is not the first time that Hoeness criticizes Tuchel. In April, when the new coach of the Three Lions was still leading Bayern, the retired striker reproached the German for his lack of commitment to the youth team.
“He has a different attitude. It’s not that you can improve Pavlovic, but you can improve Davies. The solution cannot always be to go shopping abroad. I am convinced that we have to buy one or two good players, but players who we have, we must give them confidence and work hard on them,” he explained.
A few months later, with Tuchel already off the Bavarian bench, Hoeness doubled down on his criticism of Kompany’s predecessor as a warning for the new season: “If we play football like Bayern Munich knows how to do and we don’t lose in Heidenheim and Hoffenheim after a 2-0 lead, then we’ll play different music.”
