It’s now official: Pep Guardiola (Sampedor, 1971), as we already reported in MARCA on Tuesday, November 19, has renewed his contract with Manchester City until June 2026, with the option of one more campaign (26-27), thus fulfilling a cycle, when it ends, of at least 10 seasons at the head of an entity for which he signed in the summer of 2016.
The commitment, discovered that aforementioned day 19 by ‘The Athletic’, consists of a one-year extension of the contract that, in principle, ended in the next summer of 2025. City had given the Catalan absolute freedom to decide his future , both in contract years and in financial amount – it is estimated that the Sampedor coach earns about 19 million pounds annually, more than 20 ‘kilos’ in euros. It was, therefore, a decision in Pep’s court.
Guardiola’s decision has been more personal than sporting, that is, he cared more about what his family thought than the possible wear and tear with the club and the players, since he still feels comfortable there. Not even his closest collaborators knew much about Pep’s personal decision, which is now being forged in this new contract.
Pep has already been at the club for nine seasons, winning, among other trophies, the only Champions League in the club’s history (2023), plus six Premier Leagues (we have to see what happens with the present one), in addition to a Club World Cup (2023 ), two FA Cups, four Carabao Cups, etc…
