Police have arrested 39-year-old Kusan Lama from Sindhupalchok this morning with Rs. 25 crore in cash. He was taken into custody from the Jhor area of Kathmandu.
Authorities revealed that Lama was previously involved in gold smuggling. In 2021, he was caught in Kalanki with 7 kg of gold but was later released.
Back then, he was transporting the gold in a Hilux vehicle (Ba 8 Cha 7420) from Rasuwa to Kathmandu via Galchi when police arrested him.
This morning, he was caught again while traveling towards Kerung in a truck (Na 7 Kha 1652). The money was hidden inside a false bottom in the vehicle.
Police are currently investigating the case further and will release more details in a press conference later today.
