Adrián Otaegui, a Spanish golfer from San Sebastián, announces that he will now compete for the United Arab Emirates instead of Spain.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Olympic Committee and the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) officially announced on Tuesday that Adrian Otaegui will represent the UAE as a professional golfer on all professional golf tours around the world.

The Spanish golfer said: “The United Arab Emirates is my home, I love its culture and the way it has been one of the most innovative countries in the last 50 years. “My motivation is to represent the UAE around the world and bring home an Olympic medal for this incredible country.”

Otaegui also presents himself as a role model for younger athletes in the UAE: “The younger generations of Emirati golfers must have a role model, someone they know and who inspires them to become better golfers. I am very excited to help to the development of golf in the UAE and help the Emirates Golf Federation create an elite program for future champions.”

He has been living in the UAE since he was 19 years old.

Adrián Otaegui’s first tournament when he returns to the DP World Tour will be the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa, which will be held from December 5 to 8, 2024.

Adrián Otaegui has been living in the United Arab Emirates for 13 years, when he was 19, and holds the country’s passport. Furthermore, he has not only been an ambassador for the Emirates Golf Federation and the UAE national golf team, but has also collaborated with the Federation.
