Today all the spotlights were placed on Rory Mcilory during the tiebreaker (3 holes in Storke Play mode and sudden death of persisting the draw) that the Players Championship decided and in which John Michael Spaun also attended, a player with only one victory in the PGA in his palm tree. Rory was the favorite to win the so -called ‘Quinto Grande’, but on the other hand it was inevitable to remember his collapse during other great appointments. After the US Open last year, for him only two possibilities fit: Puerta Grande or Nursing.

He was expensive. On San Patricio’s day, as was the case in 2019 when he won for the first time at the TPC Sawgrass, the players’ champion has been crowned again. He has cemented his victory in the first two rash holes, before a Span that finished sinking before reaching the iconic island of 17. After the first Mcilory hole (Birdie) he had a stroke of advantage; After the second, three. Although he computed a Bogey in 17, his rival materialized a triple bogey. The 18 seemed a procedure, although both was complicated. Bogey for the champion and Spaun already did not kill.

In this way, Mcilroy joins the group of two -time champions of the tournament (Scheffler, Tiger, Davis Love III, Steve Elkington and Fred Couple), being the first European on the list. Of course, the king remains Jack Nicklaus, with three, although none of his triumphs occurred in the TPC Sawgras. Rory has achieved his 28th victory in the PGA Tour and the second of this course, after winning the AT&T Pebble Beach.

Regarding what happened during the tiebreaker, the contest started in the 16th and the departure of Mcilroy was perfect, reaching two to Green. The second impact of Span took his ball to the bunker on the right and the result is that the Norirendés achieved the Birdie by the pair of his opponent. In 17 the American had to risk more. The European came out, which left it nine meters from the hole, while John Michael stopped braking and sent the ball to the water. He ended up doing a triple bogey for Rory’s Bogey, which failed with the putt. In 18 the exit of the two golfer was very bad, having both to hit a second blow that returned their balls to the street. The two signed a bogey, which was the second The Players for the number 2 in the world.

For contextualizing, on Sunday the American round and Norirlandés had nothing to do. Spaun started the day with four shots of advantage over Rory and apparently the main threats were this and Bathia. The golfer Angelino left the first nine holes in -1, while Mcilroy already sighted his goal with his -3. The European continued to cut with two Birdies at 11 and 12 and put himself with three advantage in the absence of six holes. His victory, reached that point, seemed more than feasible, but the Bogey of 14 (a failed drive and a 1.5 -meter failure failed) provided air to Spaun, which arriving from the last game managed to cut in 14 and 16, to match. In 18 almost embocae a putt that would have made him enter the story big, like Steve Elkington in 1991.
