Southampton sign Ivan Juric as coach

Southampton confirmed this Saturday the hiring of Croatian Ivan Juric as their new coach after the dismissal of Russell Martin last weekend.

Martin, who was the coach who returned Southampton to the Premier League, was fired last Sunday after losing 0-5 against Tottenham Hotspur and being bottom of the table with five points after 16 games, 9 from salvation.

Juric, who has signed an 18-month contract, arrives at Southampton after his last job was at Roma, where he was sacked in November after a year in charge. For the Croatian it will be the first time he trains outside of Italy, after having played at Mantova, Crotone, Genoa, Hellas Verona and Torino.

He will be the fourth coach to take charge at St. Mary’s Stadium after the departure of Ralph Hasenhüttl in 2022. The coach will not be in time to lead Southampton against Fulham this weekend, but he could be available for the next match of the ‘Saints’, against West Ham United on ‘Boxing Day’.
