Confirmed: Van Nistelrooy leaves Manchester United

It seemed obvious, but it’s now official. Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves Manchester United…coinciding with the arrival of Rúben Amorim.

The former PSV, Real Madrid and Málaga attacker, among others, arrived in the summer as Ten Hag’s assistant and had assumed the position of interim coach between the departure of the Dutchman and the arrival of Amorim.

“It has been a nice stage. Returning to the club, starting to work and directing four games, all at home, obtaining good results and scoring good goals. Closing it like this is special. My father was there, my son… It has been fantastic” , the Dutchman has recognized.

Things have not gone badly for Van Nistelrooy, who in his first professional career on the bench led PSV to win the Cup (2022-23) and Super Cup (2022). On this occasion, he has led the ‘red devils’ in four games with a record of three wins, one draw, 11 goals for and only three against. He leaves undefeated along with three other members of the staff: Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel.

The full statement from Manchester United:

“Manchester United have confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined the club in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the last four games as interim manager.

Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend.

We are grateful for his contribution and the way he has embraced his role during his time at the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.

Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also left and we wish them the best for the future.

“We will confirm the full composition of the first men’s coaching team in due course.”
